So I recently finished "LOVE STORY IN HARVARD"러브스토리 인 하버드 sbs 2004 a Korean drama that was popular that year with Kim Tae Hee (Lee Soo In) and Kim Rae Won (Kim Hyun Woo).
I loved Kim Tae Hee in this role as the lead where she finally doesn't have to glare her eyes (to show her frustration, anger, discontent) as she did in "Stairway to Heaven" as a supporting role to Choi Ji Woo. She shines as Soo In. Soo In is a poor but bright Harvard Medical Student who works many jobs who one day meets Hyun Woo (Kim Rae Won) at a hotel and barges in by accident (thinking it is someone else). Rae Won also does a great acting job (I love how he is able to emote so well and still enjoy his acting) though he continually has a knack to get roles that require alot of running from him (this one included). He is a Harvard Law School student from a privileged family background from South Korea and he feels it is his duty to represent South Korea well. At school he meets his rival both in school and love Alex Hong or korean name Hong Jung Min. (I don't get why Alex falls in love with Soo In still after she sets him straight after one date.)
The drama chronicles how their lives intertwine through the years. I must say that the English was butchered by Rae Won and the actor who played Alex Hong (Lee Jung Jin). Of course, the drama has elements of happiness (Soo In and Hyun Woo's first kiss) to dispair (when Soo In finds out the reality of Da Chemicals and Hamilton Foundation). I admit I liked Tae Hee's character Soo In more in the beginning than the latter half of the drama. What happened to her? The character development was not good. Rae Won shined and his acting with his eyes and tearing up (wow amazing!). He got me when I first saw him in "Roof Top Cat" then I had to see "Love Patzzi" and I did manage to see his very revealing coming of age first film.
As in many Korean dramas, there are decisions made by characters that do not make sense. But because I liked the two leads I overlooked that point.
