Meandering around Providence 9.29.07

Saturday, September 29-This past saturday, after the seminar my boss had on "Roadblocks for a successful retirement, I met up with SG to head to the South Shore Mall. Now it has been some time since I have been there. It loked lovely and the last time I was there it was under heavy construction.

I did like the selection at H & M there and ended up getting a cute rain slicker for a friend's cute daughter! (Always buy big for kids, is my mom's motto.) SG bought a ton of clothes as all her clothes are casual and not for work. TK met up with us much earlier than expected.

I did have some good mango and pomegrante sorbetto ($4.50) in the food court and noshed on a panini.

Then we drove down to Providence and got there within 45 minutes. It is a lovely day and warm. We are grateful and decide to park by the water. We notice alot of spaces and I recommend we park and then go to the RISD Art Museum as it closes at 5pm (though with something I saw 4pm) and it being 3:30ish we were a bit tight on time.

We walk up a block and after not seeing the RISD Museum, ask someone about where Benefits Street. We are one block parallel and have a steep walk up. Also we notice alot of the meters are not paid.

***We found out by the RISD Art Museum worker that people do not pay meters on Saturdays, though they should. The parking meters people do not tickets. We noticed that only out of town licenses paid the meters and locals did not. (Now we knew!).

I separated from my friends saying with limited time I wanted to be able to see what I wanted to see. There were three floors. I enjoyed their big saloon and they had a variety of works from Korean celadon ceramics, silveware, ukiyoe prints, famous pieces by the Impressionists, a great sculpture by Rodin etc... plus it is connected to a rich merchants home.

One piece we found out at the end was a cool wallpaper. When you first notice, it does not stand out at all. But when you stand by it and look closely you see many people's faces. It was fascinating and my friends stood there for a good 15 minutes looking at it after I brought it to their attention.
Then off to walking around Brown campus and then Pot Au Feu.
